Davis Go to Top of Group After Big Win Over Plunketts

A couple of soft frees and some excellent points from Plunketts inside line, left them in a strong position heading into the 2nd half. Raheny started well and with a strong wind in the 1st half, points from Sean Dempsey and some free's from Mick O'Keefe left Raheny leading 0-7 to 0-5 at h/t. Ciaran Murphy provided a good platform from midfield and Rob Donnelly and Derek Brown were in the thick of the action.Raheny neededPete Welsh solid in goals, and he duly obliged, as Plunketts kicked lots of high balls into the square.

This left Bernard Brogan one on one, in space, more often than is healthy for any defence. Nelson and Cathal Flaherty both played sweeper at different stages, but Hannifans nous for the position was clearly missed. From when Hannifin went off, Ballyboden seemed to lose their shape at the back, sometimes completely so. If Smyth had have seen him as he shot wide in the 36 minute, then smart money would suggest it would have been a third Plunketts goal.

When Niall Walsh cut another super run through the centre and went one-on-one with Bradshaw, it almost beggared belief that after Raheny had appeared to control the game, that the sides could have been level after 24 minutes, if hed scored. Bradshaw, however, would be equal to it, and alas, it was Grenham and Fenton who recorded the final two scores of the half to leave Raheny looking good value at 1-6 to 0-4 at the break.

McManamon Goal Seals Judes Win Over Raheny

However, despite a frequently crowded central corridor, centre back, Sen McMahon managed to ravage Plunketts with pacey runs from centre back to create three one-on-one goal chances in the second half. If you could have made one criticism of an otherwise methodical attacking and defensive performance from Raheny, throughout, it was the lack of an application of width on many occasions.

Happy 21st birthday to one of our longest serving club coaches, Conor Mount (no relation to Mason, but more talented!) Conor is one of the most dedicated and positive people at the club. Many more years in Plunketts to come from you! Here is a picture of him doing statistical analysis on our U6s a few years back Anyway Happy birthday Conor! Conor cut his teeth as a coach in the club when he was about 12 and he was still hurling away with the club at the same time. Quiet and unassuming he is down every week and gets on with his job without fuss.

Many thanks to Olive for her continued sponsorship & support of the annual game, one which Delvin GAA is proud to be associated with. There is some great work being done by both clubs at underage level and lets hope we see many of these young lads representing their club and county at senior level in the years to come. Joint Captains Conor Cassidy and Sean Vaughan the accepted the Power Shield from Olive on behalf of the U10 Delvin team. After the game our Chairman Willie Murphy thanked both sets of players for a great game and medals were presented to all players by Oliver Power, the wife of the late Kevin Power in whos honour the shield is played for every year. Both teams gave a fine exhi...bition of hurling with Delvin scoring two late goals to eventually take the honours. Our under 10s played Oliver Plunketts in the Annual Power Shield game at a wet Delvin GAA park on Sunday morning.
