Florida (@1.28) vs Kentucky (@3.5)

Our Prediction:

Florida will win

Florida – Kentucky Match Prediction | 14-09-2019 19:00

Florida are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games at KY and will easily cover the spread in this contest. Florida will be looking to avenge last seasons home loss to Kentucky, and they will do just that. Kentucky are down to a backup QB and their run game will not work in this SEC matchup. They are loaded on both sides of the ball and they will keep the Wildcats offense in check.

UMs quarterback, Jarren Williams, is also making the first start of his college career, so there will be some growing pains. Miami does have an excellent defense, which should keep UM within striking distance for the majority of the game. This is also the first game for Dan Enos as offensive coordinator at UM, so there will be some adjusting by the players and coaches during the course of a game. Miamis starting a couple of freshmen at offensive tackle, and that development should cause some concern as they go up against a a talented and veteran Florida defensive line.

More From A Sea Of Blue

But protecting him should be priority one. Inside zone reads and Run-Pass Options will still be the core of this offense and UKs success will hinge on its ability to run the ball. Smith is also a good enough athlete to make some plays with his legs. So it is not entirely out of the question for UKs offensive staff to instruct Smith to be delicate with his option keep changes.

The Hurricanes were one of the worst passing offenses amongst Power Five programs in 2018, but the good news is that UM has revamped that whole side of the ball. Miami has a new quarterback in freshman Jarren Williams, a new offensive coordinator in Dan Enos, and a new look offensive line, led by coach Butch Barry. Miami figures to be an improved group in this regard, but just how much they have improved in the passing game will be interesting.

Dallas will be a lead back and projects as a player who should crack 1,000 yards this year. Sophomore CamRon Harris is going to be UMs complementary back and has some big play potential whenever he touches the ball. The Hurricanes ranked No. 45 in the country in rushing offense at 191 yards per game. UM must replace Travis Homer, who moved on to the NFL, and now DeeJay Dallas will step in as the starter after rushing for 617 yards and seven touchdowns last year. In terms of the strength of the offensive line, Miamis line is much better at run blocking than pass blocking.

The one exception would be when a teams got a great ground game, but Florida hasnt come close to showing that. No Gator has amassed 100 rushing yards for the season to this point through two games, and the Gators dont have the excuse of playing two blowouts because one of their games was a four-point win over Miami. Lamical Perine leads the Gators with 93 yards on 20 carries, and if those numbers are indicative of the kind of day hell have against Kentucky, this wont end well for Florida.

NCAAFB Matchups

There are just too many unknowns for the Hurricanes going into this game. On paper, Florida certainly has the edge here, but it will be interesting to see how Miami looks on offense with a new coordinator and a new system. Freshman starters at quarterback, left tackle, and right tackle against a Top 15-20 defense in the country typically isnt a recipe for success. Edge: Florida.

I think Smith is more than capable of helping the Cats win 9-10 games. This is still a run-first, ball-control offense. The loss of Terry Wilson is a big one and while his ceiling is much higher than Sawyer Smiths, I dont think its a huge drop off. Wilson hasnt been so good that hes irreplaceable this season.

Floridas pass protection will be questionable and Feleipe Franks is not a consistent passer in the pocket. The Hurricanes statistically had the best pass defense in the country last season and while UM must replace three starters from their secondary, the play will still be at a high level because of the pass rush and the new starters are talented. Edge: Miami.

We are honored to be able to open up the 150th season of college football a week ahead of everybody else, Miami coach Manny Diaz said. It is Miami and Florida and when you think about the history of college football, the sport was revolutionized in this state.

Florida vs. Kentucky Fearless Prediction & Game Preview

To get a win over Florida, Smith will need his backs to step up. Last year, Kentucky rode Benny Snell to victory in the Swamp, but with Snell gone, the Wildcats are left to lean on Asim Rose and Kavosiey Smoke to carry the load. Both backs have performed well against Toledo and Eastern Michigan, but Florida presents a tougher challenge than a MAC defense.

After snapping a thirty-one year losing streak to the Gators last season, that monkey is finally off the Wildcats back heading into this weekends game. Both teams are facing injuries that will impact their play, but this game has large implications regardless. Florida is a much more talented team this go around, though, as they currently sit at #9 in the current AP poll.

The Hurricanes defense, which enjoyed a renaissance of dominance under the direction of Diaz during his time as coordinator, ranked No. The Hurricanes were one of only three teams in FBS to surrender a yards-per-play average of 4.3 or fewer - considered among the most important metrics when evaluating defense in modern day college football. 4 in FBS in total defense in 2018, allowing just 278.9 yards per game.
