NY Mets (M Stroman) will win

Arizona (A Young) – NY Mets (M Stroman) Match Prediction | 12-09-2019 13:10

For the second straight night, the Mets will face a rookie, and for the second straight night it will be a rookie coming off one of the most impressive outings of his young career. The 24-year-old started the year with the Miami Marlins and was traded at the deadline as Miami looked to address other needs. In his last outing, Gallen allowed just one hit over seven shutout innings while striking out eight against the Padres. Gallen took on the Mets once before as a member of the Marlins and went five innings while allowing two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and five walks. The right-hander has stepped in admirably for the Diamondbacks, who had a hole to fill in their rotation after unloading Zack Greinke.

They are the top two prospects in the Yankees system, according to MLB Pipeline. Garcia has 138 strikeouts in 90.1 innings this season, and the Yankees never seriously considered trading him for one of the available starters at the deadline. According to Bob Klapisch of The New York Times, the Mets were ready to send Stroman to the Yankees in exchange for a package that included minor-leaguers Deivi Garcia and Estevan Florial.

Im disappointed that I cant add to what I already have, which I feel good about and strong about, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said at a press conference Wednesday, shortly after New York beat Greinke and Arizona 7-5 in an afternoon game.

New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies: Projected Starting Pitchers

He then surrendered a hit and a two-run home run to J.T. Realmuto to even up the game. With Seth Lugo unavailable, Mickey Callaway entrusted Diaz to pitch the ninth, and at first it looked like he might get through it after blowing away the first batter he faced. The Mets persevered in the bottom of the frame, as they put together a two-out rally that begain with back-to-back hits by Juan Lagares and J.D. Davis and ended with a Pete Alonso walk-off walk. On Friday, the Mets overcame another ninth-inning meltdown by Edwin Diaz to earn a 5-4 victory. Instead, they laid an egg and fell in two out of three to the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend. With the score tied at two, the home team pushed two runs across in the bottom of the eighth against Philadelphias bullpen. The Mets needed a series win at worstand, ideally, a series sweepto keep pace in the National League Wild Card race.

The Mets tied it up at four in the fifth and had a chance to go ahead with the bases loaded and one out, but Amed Rosario grounded out, forcing Mickey Callaway to pinch hit for Thor with Todd Frazier. They scored one in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth and three in the seventh off Syndergaard and a revolving door of Mets relievers. The pinch hitter struck out to end the threat, and Philadelphia went ahead for good in the following inning. The Mets teed off on Vince Velasquez in the first with back-to-back home runs by Wilson Ramos and Robinson Cano to give Noah Syndergaard a 3-0 lead, but the Phillies chipped away slowly. The Mets slogged through a Sunday afternoon as they fell 10-7 in another disheartening defeat. At four hours and 29 minutes, it clocked in as the longest nine-inning game in franchise history and the second-longest nine-inning game in National League history.

Though Greinke has two years remaining on his contract, dealing him would make some sense for the Diamondbacks. At 35, Greinke would be a better fit for a team ready to contend than one looking to rebuild over the next couple of seasons. As Morosi pointed out, Arizona has talent in its farm system, and Greinke would net a lot in return.

Over/under: Place a small wager on the OVER 8.5 (-121), but avoid if it goes up to 9. The Mets are 68-58-14 O/U on the season and 30-29-6 O/U at home. The Phillies are more of an under team, but the Mets bullpen is all over the place right now. It is hard to assume any lead is safe for New York.

Saturdays Batting Splits

Stroman had another rough outing for the Mets as he continues to search for answers and some level of success in his new surroundings. Since arriving in New York, he has been bitten by the home run ball, which is not a problem he encountered this year with the Toronto Blue Jays. After serving up ten home runs in Toronto, hes already given up seven in six starts with the Mets. He allowed a career-high ten hits and struck out six. After winning his first five starts, the Mets have now lost each of Stromans last three starts. The right-hander went just four innings and gave up five runs (four earned).

Career vs. Last outing: Tossed one-run ball over 5 1/3 innings, striking out eight batters in the process. Smyly has a 6.23 ERA and has allowed 10 home runs over the last 30 1/3 innings pitched. Smyly is 3-6 with a 6.65 ERA and a 98/49 K-BB ratio in 21 appearances (17 starts). His last six starts have been a struggle. Mets: This is Smylys first-career start against the New York Mets.

Civale, the Indians 3rd round pick in the 2016 MLB first year player draft, was called up to the big league club on August 5th, his second call up of the season. The Mets have taken the first two games of the series by a score of 9-2 and 4-3 respectively. Overall on the season he is 8-6 with a 3.86 ERA and 151 strikeouts. Tonight Noah Syndergaard will match up against Aaron Civale. Syndergaard has been phenomenal as of late posting a 1.65 ERA with 25 strikeouts over his last four starts. The New York Mets and Cleveland Indians wrap up a three game series tonight in Flushing, New York. Reliever Luis Aviln was credited with the win for the Mets while Brad Hand got the loss for the Indians. Tonights game has major playoff implications for both sides again. The Indians are 3 games back from the division leading Minnesota Twins in the AL Central, however they are atop the AL wild card. He is 1-2 with a 1.50 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 4 starts with the Indians this year. Last night, Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman left the game after 4 innings with a hamstring injury. The Mets are 9 games behind the division leading Atlanta Braves in the NL East, but only a game and a half out in the NL wild card.

Along with being a reliable bench bat, Flores set the franchise record with 10 walk-off hits during his time with the team. In 75 games this season, hes hitting .319/.362/.486 with seven home runs, a 119 wRC+, and a 0.9 fWAR. After batting injuries early on, Flores has been raking lately and has played his way into the everyday starting lineup for the Diamondbacks.

Hot Reads

In addition to residing four off the pace for a playoff spot, they sunk to two games back of the Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers and find themselves two-and-a-half back of the Diamondbacks ahead of their visit. The Chicago Cubs lost on Saturday and Sunday, so while the Mets did not lose any ground, they missed out on a fantastic chance to gain some ground before Chicago settles in to play the easy part of their schedule.

Through two, he was at over 50 pitches but was able to escape having only allowed one run. It took him 101 pitches to get through the outing, with most of those coming in the first two innings. It remains to be seen whether he will price himself out of New Yorks range, but his inconsistency could keep his contract low enough that the Mets may entertain bringing the right-hander back. He allowed seven hits and struck out three while walking two. Wheeler likely has only four more starts this season to make a case for a big contract in the offseason. Wheeler plodded through a five inning performance against the Washington Nationals in his last start but left with a win thanks to his offense.
